Join Arch Maria Paschini as she talks about
sustainable Architecture also known as green design or green architecture,
which is a concept that emphasizes designing and constructing buildings with
environmental responsibility and resource efficiency throughout their entire
life cycle.
These are the key points that she will take you
through:
1. Environmental Responsibility:
Green architecture aims to limit the negative impact
of building construction and operation on the environment. It incorporates
practices that safeguard air, water, and other resources.
2. Resource Efficiency:
Sustainable buildings use eco-friendly construction
materials and planning practices. These materials are often recycled,
recyclable, or environmentally friendly.
3. Energy Conservation:
Green buildings focus on reducing energy consumption.
They may utilize renewable energy sources during construction and throughout
their lifespan.
4. Building Materials:
The choice of materials matters. Sustainable
architecture promotes the use of safe, durable, and low-impact materials.
Arch. Maria Paschini is a Professional Architect,
Arbitrator, and Sustainability consultant in Johannesburg. She lectures on
sustainability and energy efficiency for the built environment. In 1996,
Maria founded MCP Architect & Arbitrator and has also worked in several
different-sized practices. Maria has co-presented the Professional Practice
Workshops for GIfA and mentor’s young women architects/architectural students
through the W.H.Y Project.

About Arch. Ivan Schlapobersky
Arch. Ivan Schlapobersky is a distinguished South
African architect whose work has left a meaningful mark on the country’s
architectural landscape. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he has
led and contributed to many notable projects, including the Saatchi &
Abel Head Office in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ivan has always
championed the social role of architecture. As a founding member of
Architects Against Apartheid, he helped create opportunities for young people
to enter and grow within the profession.

shares his inspiring journey, offering reflections, lessons, and a legacy
